A fire roller shutter is a robust, fire-rated door system designed to provide enhanced protection against the spread of fire and smoke within buildings. Typically constructed from galvanised steel or similar fire-resistant materials, these shutters are installed in openings such as doorways, windows, or larger access points. When triggered by a fire alarm system or heat sensors, the shutter automatically descends to seal off the area, helping to contain fire and maintain structural integrity for a specified fire-resistance period, often ranging from 30 minutes to 4 hours. Ideal for commercial, industrial, and public buildings, fire roller shutters comply with stringent UK safety regulations, ensuring both property protection and occupant safety during emergencies.
Shutters up to a maximum 2.8 meters wide x 2.8 meters high can be supplied self coiling push up operation.
Shutters over this size should be either mechanically geared (*Handchain or
handwheel) or electrically operated.
*Handchain operation allows the shutter to be operated from one side only, handwheel operation allows operation from both sides.
Fusible Link – all shutters are supplied with a fusible link which is designed to close the shutter automatically when local temperature exceeds
72 degrees centigrade.
Thermoelectric quartzoid bulb – can be provided which works in a
similar principle to a fusible link but can also be wired into a fire alarm system (24 volts D.C.), upon reciept of a signal the bulb breaks thus closing the shutter.
Various arrangements are available, which when energised or de-energised allow the shutter to self close normally working on a 24 volt D.C. circuit, further details are available on request.
All parts not galvanised are painted in one coat of protective primer. Powder coat finish is available as an optional extra to B.S. 4800 and RAL 840 HR colour ranges, colours available on request.
